Te reo Maori moves into social media

Maori technology advocate Karaitiana Taiuru has released a Dictionary of Maori Computer and Social Media terms for free download.
The 1600-page dictionary contains over 374,000 headwords with translations from 33 recorded sources.
Mr Taiuru says te reo Maori needs to be used in technology to ensure its ongoing relevance and survival.
He says it’s almost 20 years since the release of the first Maori language software offering a bilingual interface on a Windows computer, and there is a demand from Maori speakers and learners for Maori language options in the technology they use every day.
