Otahuhu land temporary stop for homeless

Land at Otahuhu earmarked for a future school will be turned into a 51-home development to provide transitional housing for families.
Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett made the announcement today at the National Maori Housing Conference in Tauranga.
She says it is just one of many new developments to come as the Government ramps up the housing supply in Auckland.
Housing New Zealand this week lodged a resource consent to build 27 two-bedroom, seven three-bedroom and 17 four-bedroom homes on the 1.4 hectare Luke St site.
She says they will be built so that they can be easily moved later, but will remain there for at least seven years.
The first homes should be completed by February.
A community provider will be contracted to manage the site and offer wraparound services to tenants.
