Wahine leadership continues to grow
Wahine Maori are being encouraged to seek leadership roles in the public and private sectors as executives, directors and governors.
The Federation of Maori Authorities held its sixth Huihuinga Wahine Maori Women's Leadership Summit in Auckland yesterday, drawing more than 100 women from around the motu.
FOMA chair Traci Houpapa says it’s a chance to share stories about what it takes to break the glass ceiling.
"It’s not only about our existing leaders, women who are chairing organisations, leading our ahu whenua and our iwi authorities, it’s also about our emerging leaders, and what was encouraging yesterday was we had our rangatahi, our taitamariki through to our pakeke and kuia," she says.
FOMA is looking at bringing international speakers for next year’s Huihuinga Wahine.
