Ruha concerts generate whanau feel

Packed audiences have been turning out for award winning songwriter Rob Ruha as he has tried to make his 10-centre national tour a whanau-centred affair.
Ruha, who won the best song, best traditional album and best male solo artist titles at this year’s Waiata Maori Music Awards, has opted for concert venues rather than pubs or clubs.
That has encouraged communities to turn out and show their manaakitanga and support.
"It’s been an opportunity for me to share the bones ofm the compositions, then DNA, every pen stroke, what that meant when I wrote the songs and what I was feeling at the time, an it has been received really really well," he says.
Rob Ruha plays Rotorua tonight, Whakatane tomorrow, and he’ll be at the Crystal Palace in Mount Eden on Friday week.
