Gaza blockade in the name of peace

Green MP Marama Davidson leaves for Italy today to join an international women’s peace flotilla to Gaza.
She expects the two small boats will take about a week to cross the Mediterranean, arriving off the Gaza coast at the end of the month.
Ms Davidson says the enormity of what she is attempting is starting to sink in, and the importance of challenging the blockade in the territory, where unemployment runs at more than 46 percent and Israel blocks adequate supplies of food, medicine and building materials.
"It’s not sustainable and it’s oppressive and it’s having a real everyday effect on everyone’s, lives an particularly women and this flotilla is about highlighting the role of women in building peace and resistance against war around the world," she says.
There’s a public farewell for Marama Davidson at 6pm at Auckland International Airport.
