The Maniapoto Maori Trust Board is trying to secure a mandate to restart the King Country tribe’s treaty negotiations.

Chair Tiwha Bell says the crown has told it the clams process has stalled.

He says the board has got the backing of its Kaumatua Kaunihera to take over, and it now intends to meet with the various claimants.

It will then discuss the process with the wider tribe
