Cash waiting for Ngapuhi unity

Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says he’s disappointed at the crisis within Ngapuhi’s treaty settlement negotiating body.
Tuhoronuku trustees last week voted 11-10 against endorsing a restructuring plan written by a subcommittee in collaboration with the Office of Treaty Settlements and critics within the tribe.
Treaty Negotiations Minister Christopher Finlayson last month threatened to withdraw its mandate if it don’t adopt the Maranga Mai plan.
Mr Flavell says a lot of time and money has gone into getting Ngapuhi to the table, but personalities seem to get in the way.
"There’s money sitting there available for Ngapuhi to go ahead and make a settlement it just comes down to the first phase as to whose going to negotiate and whose going to talk for them," he says.
Te Ururoa Flavell says most Ngapuhi people he talks to are keen to get a settlement done
