Call for Smith benching over Kermadec botch

Labour fisheries spokesperson Rino Tirikatene says Nick Smith needs to stop talking at Maori.
He wants him sacked from the Environment portfolio for the mess he has made of the proposed Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary.
Prime Minister John Key pulled back legislation after the Minister ruled out a compromise suggested by Te Ohu Kaimoana, that iwi could voluntarily agree not to fish in the sanctuary as long as they retained the right to do so if circumstances changed.
Dr Smith insists there can be no trust and quota must be extinguished permanently, despite it being part of a treaty settlement.
"Send Nick Smith to the bench, John Key should definitely do that. He's been reckless with this. He misjudged the weather forecast and now he's coming into a storm. The messages we have received, it doesn't bode well that an acceptable compromise will be reached on this," Mr Tirikatene says.
he says Nick Smith has bungled whenever he has had to deal with Maori.
