Funding for rangatahi suicide prevention initiatives

Te Puni Kokiri is to share almost $2 million among 28 organisations nationwide to run rangatahi suicide prevention initiatives.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says Maori youth suicide rates are two and a half times higher than for non-Maori youth.
All the projects must make rangatahi leadership central to their design, implementation and delivery.
Mr Flavell says the new projects will be evaluated to help identify what works best in preventing rangatahi Maori suicide.
Te Puniu Kokiri is also part of an interagency steering group updating the New Zealand Suicide Prevention Strategy and developing a new action plan.
