Hato Petera role for Ta Toby Curtis
Former Hato Petera principal Sir Toby Curtis been elected chair of the body overseeing hostels at the embattled Auckland Maori Catholic boarding school.
Hato Petera Society Incorporated owns the company that has a licence to run the hostels, which were overhauled with voluntary labour over the Christmas break after they were ruled unfit for habitation
The Te Arawa kaumatua says the society is grateful for the assistance it has received from the Catholic Bishop of Auckland and his diocesan officials, as well as from officials of the Ministry of Education in the establishment of the new governance structure.
The bishop is consulting on the future of the school, which has had troubles with a falling roll, hostel governance, and concern over whether it could meet the terms of its integration agreement with the ministry.
