Business-savvy innovator to take Ngapuhi helm

Te Runanga a Iwi o Ngapuhi has gone for commercial experience in appointing its new chief executive.
Tony Dowling, from the Ngati Tautahi hapu of Ngapuhi, has held senior roles with electronics companies Honeywell and Siemens A& D, and is currently the director of innovation and development at Te Wananga o Aotearoa.
Acting chair Carol Dodd says there was strong interest in the position from many senior Ngapuhi executives, both in Aotearoa and overseas.
She says Mr Dowling, who starts in November, joins the runanga at a time of great opportunity for the people and the rohe.
He replaces Allen Wihongi who retired earlier this year.
Te Wananga o Aotearoa CEO Jim Mather says in his three years with the wananga Mr Dowling created the innovation development group which not only brought in alternative incomes streams but also established partnerships and programmes aligned with the vision of whanau transformation through education.
