McLean to move on from Tainui
Waikato Tainui’s chief executive is moving on.
Parekawhia McLean says after five years in the job it was time to look for a new challenge.
She cameto the job after a long career in te public service, including working as a strategic advisor to three prime ministers.
She says highlights of her time working for her iwi include helping get the $87.5 million relativity payment form the crown, seeing the return of lands at Rangiriri where the Waikato Wars began, and developing the tribal education strategy and its environmental plan.
Rahui Papa, the chair of Te Arataura tribal executive, says Ms McLean had overseen a key period of growth and development by Waikato-Tainui, including the Whakatupuranga 2050 review and reorganisation of the tribe’s governing structures.
