Subdivision fight grounded in principles

They’ve been beaten back by the bureaucracy, the politics are against them, but a group battling to stop a development on an important ancestral site at Mangere still have the support of Green MP Marama Davidson.
Ms Davidson spoke last night at a public meeting called by the Save Our Unique Landscape group which continues to battle against the Fletcher Development proposal to create housing subdivision at Ihumatao alongside the Otuataua stonefields.
She says even though prospects of success seem hopeless, the principle is worth fighting for.
"My own family whakapapa, my own activism, the legacy of the Green Party is we will support the marginalised and disempowered voices who are trying to resist a power imbalance and an injustice that went wrong a long time ago," Ms Davidson says.
The initial injustice was the confiscation of the land from Waiohua.
