The Lottery Grants Board will spend just over $7.5 million for marae heritage and facilities over the next year, compared with just under $8 million paid out last year.
Just days after New Zealanders splurged record amounts chasing a $40 million Powerball jackpot, Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne announced how $189 million in Lottery profits will be spent in 2016/17.
Just over $108 million will flow into the community through Lottery Distribution Committees.
Another $80 million goes to Sport NZ, Creative New Zealand and the New Zealand Film Commission.
Marae heritage grants, which require recipients to put up at least a third of the cost, can be for studies to find out if a planned project is feasible, or projects to repair, restore or build marae facilities.
