Gisborne’s Turanga FM has walked off with the coveted Station of the Year tohu at this year’s Maori Radio Awards in Rotorua on Saturday.
It was a good night also for Taranaki’s Te Korimako, Tumeke FM in Whakatane, and Kaitaia’s Te Hiku o Te Ika, which took home three prizes each.
Turanga scored in the best regional news or current affairs and the outstanding individual achievement categories.
Te Korimako shone for having the best breakfast host and best programme as well as the coveted Reo a Iwi Award.
Tumeke had the best programmer, best advertisement, and outstanding community contribution.
Te Hiku’s innovative approach to outside broadcasts won it that category, as well as best talk or current affairs host and best kaumatua show.
Radio Waatea again won the best web site award.
