Morrison broadcasters’ voice on Te Matawai
Broadcaster and teacher Scotty Morrison has been chosen by Nga Aho Whakaari and Te Whakaruruhau to be the iwi radio representative on Te Matawai.
The spot was open to anyone who was part of the iwi radio network.
Former Maori Television presenter Reikura Kahi was selected as the Nga Aho Whakaari representative and will be Mr Morison's alternate.
Mr Morrison, who was nominated by Radio Te Arawa, says it's a privilege to represent iwi and urban broadcasters on the new Maori language body.
"Maori broadcasting plays a huge role in language revitalisation. Incognito or subconsciously it is an important part of the revitalisation process. Apart from providing information to our communities and to our local tribhes, we also have that dual responsibilty of the revitalisaion of te reo Maori which in its essence is why Maori radio stations and Maori TV were set up," he says.
Scotty Morrison has been with Radio Waatea for 12 years and also fronts Television New Zealand's daily Maori language news programme Te Karere.
