New blood for Arts Council
A change of the guard at the Arts Council.
Darrin Haimoma, who chaired the Maori Arts Board Te Waka Toi for two terms before transitioning over to the new council, is out, along with one-term member Peter Lucas Jones.
In are Karl Johnstone, the chief executive of the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute in Rotorua, and Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi professor and Maori language revitalisation expert Taiarahia Black.
Also new to the council are arts patron Dame Renny Gibbs and Chamber Music New Zealand chair and WOMAD programme director Roger King.
Former cabinet minister Luamanuvao Winnie Laban and Wayne Marriott, who is also on the Heritage New Zealand board and Maori Heritage Council, retained their seats.
