Wananga digs into garden lore

Future gardeners and teachers are the targets for two courses Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi is offering at its new south Auckland campus.
Tamaki regional manager Glenn Mackay says the shift from shared space at Unitec to Lambie Drive in Manukau has been good for the Whakatane-headquartered Maori tertiary institution.
Its Kai Oranga course, a partnership with Maori organic growers’ collective Te Waka Kai Ora, kicks off next month.
"What we are looking to do is rekindle regenerate some of our old traditions and practices around maara kai, how you design and develop gardens and the sustainability and the productivity of food," Mr Mackay says.
The other course starting at the second semester in July is Aho Ki Te Wananga, a bridging course to give people foundation skills to start training to become teachers.
