Large scale language champion
After running one of the country's largest Maori language teaching operations, Bentham Ohia should have some ideas about how to get te reo Maori out to a wider group of learners.
That's one reason the former Te Wananga o Aotearoa chief executive has been selected as Mataatua representative on the new Maori language body Te Matawai.
Selection board member Awanui Black says Mr Ohia was a natural fit for the position.
Since leaving the wananga Mr Ohia has worked on national and international indigenous education initiatives, helped with the merger of Waiariki Polytechnic and Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, and done post-graduate research at Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi.
