Call for raise in youth justice age

Maori community and justice reform groups are calling for a raise in the age of youth justice.
Just Speak director Katie Bruce says every year the organisations work with many thousands of victims, young people, prisoners and communities on issues such as learning disabilities, homelessness, family violence, child and youth development and restorative justice.
She says what unites them is they are all calling on the Government to take children out of the adult justice system.
Parliament will today debate the new Child, Youth and Family Bill that will replace the Child, Youth and Family Services with a new stand alone entity.
The Green Party says it will support raising the age and offenders will be dealt with by adult courts.
