Treaty land bank moves to LINZ

A bid by the Iwi Leaders Forum to manage the treaty settlement land bank for the crown has been rebuffed.
Iwi leaders have been pushing the idea for more than two years.
But Land Information Minister Louise Upston yesterday announced her agency would take over the 950 properties from July 1.
The land bank have been managed by the Justice Ministry’s property division for the past decade, and was previously run by the Office of Treaty Settlements.
Ms Upston says LINZ are experts in dealing with Crown property, and have the people, systems and processes needed to make sure the land bank properties continue to be well looked after for the iwi who may eventually receive them.
Its Crown Property Centre of Expertise currently manages about 15,000 properties on behalf of other crown agencies.
