He Toki apprenticeships prove vital
Christchurch’s He Toki Apprenticeship Trust is celebrating recruiting 40 apprentices for construction sector employers in a little over a year.
Manager Hemi Inia says the trust now has 10 employers willing to take on young Maori from the area.
Ryman Healthcare has employed 13 young men and women for a job out at Rangiora.
He says the apprentices add diversity to work sites and contribute to the development of stronger teams.
The trust was formed about the time of the Canterbury earthquakes by a consortium including Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu, Te Tapuae o Rehua, Hawkins Group and Ara Institute of Canterbury.
