Takawai Murphy on Paakiwaha

For over 25 years Takawai Murphy has been delivering and developing Te Pumaomao workshops to Maori, Pakeha and other ethnic peoples from all walks of life.

Takawai calls it a "nationhood course" some call it a cultural awareness course which looks at the impacts of colonisation to all New Zealanders.

For Maori it encourages reclaimation of  Mana Maori, Reo, Tikanga, Maori names, tuuturu karakia and to retain and strengthen their own sense of Maori-ness. For non- Maori it encourages compassion and understanding of Maori and other tangata whenua.

Takawai says many New Zelanders have said that it has changed their lives and the mayor of New Plymouth, Andrew Judd can attest to that, although Takawai doesn't accept all the kudos.
