New Plymouth mayor Andrew Judd on Paakiwaha
The beleaguered mayor of New Plymouth Andrew Judd has been a participant of Te Pumaomao workshops run by Takawai Murphy.
He says the delivery of the cultural awareness workshops are carried out in a safe way and says as a Pakeha it puts you in a space of , "wow I didn't know".
Andrew Judd says " people often say, well don't blame me it's ancient history. I didn't do it. But I came to realise well, actually no you didn't, but you harboured the attitude of justifying what happened by your continued attitude".
He says "we have no concept of what we do".
On the 15th, 16th and 17th of June, mayor Judd and supporters will gather to hikoi from the NPDC buildings to Parihaka. He is calling Pakeha to Pakeha that it's time for a new conversation
He says "it's time we got over ourselves and we need to be honest with ourselves. We are Pakeha, the problem in New Zealand is that we point our finger all the time at Maoridom and I for one am sick of this".
Mayor Judd says he has received support from people all around the world and as far away as Japan, South Africa, the UK and Australia and it's all very very humbling.
