Prize pool boost for Maori film fest
A return trip to Tahiti, script consultation and post production services are among the prizes rounded up for next weekend's Wairoa Maori Film Festival.
"Wairoa Maori Film Festival has secured over $10,000 in prizes from sponsors across the country," he says
Festival director Leo Koziol says the prize pool now stands at $10,000 in cash and kind.
There are prizes for best writing and best use of music in short films, for emerging Maori and Pasifika directors, use of te reo Maori and a grand award for advancement of indigenous rights.
The maker of the best Maori-themed film gets a trip to show their fim at next year's T-Tahiti film festival.
Awards will also be made to the recipients of the Women in Film and television Wairoa Mana Wahine Award, Nancy Brunning and Rachel House.
The Gala Awards evening will also include a speech by kura huna advocate Rangimarie Rose Pere and music by Troy Kingi and Anishinaabe viola player Melody McKiver from Canada.
The audience awards for Maori short films, including a $1000 prize from Radio Waatea for best short film will be decided at the Wairoa festival and presented at a "Brown Carpet" event in Auckland in July.
