Kai hoe at one with ancestors

Gold on the Sunshine Coast. That's the reward Nathan Rennie and his Vaka Manu teammates from the Manukau Outrigger Canoe Club brought back from last week's World Va'a Sprint Championships in Queensland.
He says the 12-man crew came away from the finish line thinking they'd have to settle for silver in the 500 metre race, but the tapes eventually confirmed a narrow win.
He says it's a great sport to be involved in.
"The whole vibe on and off the water is very whanau oriented, and just how it takes me back to my ancestors, how they used to paddle all across the world, that's what I get out of paddling,"says Nathan Rennie.
Aotearoa surpassing Tahiti on the medal table for the first time was another highlight of the tournament.
