More cash to tackle sexual violence
Rape prevention network TOAH-NNEST wants some of the extra money in the budget for sexual violence services to go towards services for Maori.
Spokesperson Sandz Peipi says the $46 million will provide a chance to identify priority areas of workforce development.
Work also needs to be done to develop appropriate and adequate services for Maori.
She says while sexual violence is not just a Maori problem, indigenous pathways can provide effective solutions for all.
She says over the years network members have worked with police, Accident Compensation and other government agencies to put the victim at the centre of any policies.
Because the need is there they have provided 24/7 support without adequate resources.
