Turangawaewae farewell for Piripi Munro

Turangawaewae Marae is the destination this week for people who want to say farewell to Piripi Munro, who died on Friday.
Mr Munro was a familiar figure at the marae as the master of ceremonies for major hui.
A winner of the Korimako speech award in 1970 while a student at Hato Petera College, he continued a long association with the Auckland Maori boarding school, coaching its kapa haka groups.
He worked as a steward for Air New Zealand and for the Department of Maori Affairs, where he was one of the people notable in the Maori world who were brought in to drive the changes of the Tu Tangata era.
His funeral service is on Wednesday morning.
