Jane Kelsey says there are a couple of important issues that came out of the Waitangi Tribunal Report last week regarding the Trans Pacific Partenrship.
She says things that people need to understand in looking at the conclusion is that the Tribunal only selected a couple of issues because this was an urgent hearing.
The intellectual property issues that arise out of Wai262 and Maori access to affordable medicine is not covered there.
Concerns about the special rights of foreign investors and their ability to sue off shore was a concern and the quite low test that there has to be a reasonable degree of protection for Maori interests.
That says Jane Kelsey is a low threshold and doesn't address what came out recently in the claim from up North that addressed the issue that Maori had not ceded sovereignty in Te Tiriti.
