Brisbane boost for budding sawbone
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons is this week calling Maori junior doctors to its annual scientific congress in Brisbane.
Zanazir Alexander from Middlemore Hospital, Jaclyn Aramoana-Arlidge from North Shore Hospital, Joshua Knudsen from the Hawke's Bay DHB and Kopa Manahi from the Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital have all expressed an interest in taking up the scalpel.
They will network with fellows and other professionals involved in surgery, visit Aboriginal health services in Queensland, and take part in an Indigenous Doctors’ Breakfast to discuss leadership career pathways for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Maori medical professionals.
The college is trying to find ways to increase the success rate of Indigenous doctors progressing into surgical training.
