Ngai Tahu fixes houses
The Maori Development Minister says an iwi-led social housing initiative is just the start of a greater focus by Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu on housing.
In Addington this morning, Te Ururoa Flavell opened three earthquake-affected houses relocated from Sumner and fully renovated for whanau.
He says providing modern comfortable homes for whanau who have struggled with the impact of the earthquakes is not so much a rescue package as a basic human right.
The runanga also has a home ownership pilot supporting 15 whanau into their own homes.
The Addington project has been completed in partnership with The Rata Foundation and Te Puni Kokiri with community social housing provider Comcare responsible for managing and tenanting the houses.
