Te Tai Tokerau MP Kelvin Davis is welcoming a report aimed at bringing the various factions of Ngapuhi together to negotiate a settlement of historic treaty claims.
The Maranga Mai report put together by members of both the official negotiating group Tuhoronuku and bitter rivals Te Kotahitanga o Nga Hapu Ngapuhi has been released to iwi members for comment.
Mr Davis says he’s been pushing for years for the parties to find a new process to move forward.
"We’ve got two sides talking we've got the two sides proposing something here, let's chew it over, let's see if it is going to work and let's settle but, let's do it in a way that as many people as possible are happy with," he says.
Kelvin Davis says Ngapuhi is missing out on millions of dollars a year in interest payments alone by not settling.
