PKW cleans up in environment awards
Taranaki incorporation Parininihi ki Waitotara has taken a clutch of awards at this year’s Taranaki Ballance Farm Environment Awards.
Its No.2 Farm in the Ohangai district won the supreme award.
Judges said farm manager Matt Kelbrick and dairy supervisor Roger Landers oversaw major redevelopment of the 159 hectare property, including the construction of a new effluent system and a 60-bale rotary farm dairy.
With only five cows added to the 325-cow herd, they were able to increase milk production by almost 32,000 kilograms of milk solids.
Reflecting PKW’s long-term view of land guardianship, all waterways are fenced and small areas of the farm are being retired and planted with natives.
The team also picked up the Massey University Innovation Award and the WaterForce Integrated Management Award.
PKW Farm 13 at Pihama run by Levi Scown won the Ballance Agri-Nutrients Soil Management Award.
