Morehu are mourning the death of long-serving church secretary Karaka Waka Paama.
In recent years Mr Palmer chaired the Komiti Matua ote Haahi Ratana.
He died this morning visiting relatives in Taupo, and will be taken to his turangawaewae on Matakana island.
New Zealand First Maori spokesperson Pita Paraone says he was a quiet, humble and an unassuming man who served the Ratana Church to the end.
He was a man who placed the care and well-being of others ahead of his own personal needs.
