Call for views on NZ Wars memorial

The Maori affairs select committee is seeking submissions on a petition to have a national day marking the New Zealand Land Wars of the 19th century.
Otorohanga school students Waimarama Anderson and Leah Bell collected 12,000 signatures in support of their petition.
The petitioners want to raise awareness of the wars and how they relate to local history for schools and communities, and they're asking for local histories to be added to the school curriculum.
To memorialise the Maori and Pakeha who gave their lives on New Zealand soil, they are also asking for a statutory day of recognition.
The closing date for submissions is Thursday, April 21.
