Cultures celebrate at 41st Polyfest
The 41st ASB Polyfest starts at 7 tomorrow morning when the flag is raised over the Manukau Sports Bowl.
The Maori stage is first up as teams from 64 secondary schools across Auckland vie for the honours of the super city's top kapa haka.
Festival director Theresa Howard says the festival has grown to reflect the many cultures represented in the nation's schools.
"We've got so many cultures within our city within our small community and we are just a good group of people a good community just wanting to embrace what that is and just accepting of all the different cultures and our neighbourhood and just being able to celebrate the cultural diversity of what Auckland has become and its been so exciting to see many different nationalities participate in the festival and then seeing everyone wanting to learn everyone else's and speaking the language and listening and singing songs, it's wonderful" says Mrs Howard.
Polyfest runs at the Manukau Sports Bowl from Wednesday until Saturday, $5 on the gate.
