Tributes continue for Ranginui Walker

A big crowd is expected at Orakei Marae today for the funeral of Dr Ranginui Walker.
Thousands have been through the marae over the past couple of days to pay tribute to the fiery academic and testify to the impact he had on their thinking and the way Aotearoa now thinks of the place of Maori.’
While Dr Walker had retired from Auckland University, finishing his long career there as its first pro vice chancellor (Maori), he continued to be active as a member of the Waitangi Tribunal.
Today’s service will be led by Anglican Bishop Bishop Kito Pikaahu and Rev Hirini Kaa, after which Dr Walker will be cremated in a private ceremony.
The service will be broadcast live on Maori Television from 10am and livestreamed on its website.
