Nga Pae boosts to Maori scholarship
The centre for Maori research excellence, Nga Pae o Te Maramatanga, has a new scholarship programme to give emerging and recognised researchers and scholars the support they need to undertake research that contributes to Maori and the nation as a whole.
Maori scholars undertaking doctoral research that contributes to one of Nga Pae’s research themes can apply for a scholarship worth $28,000 a year to support them in full time study.
Masters students can apply for one of five $10,000 scholarships offered jointly with Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori to support the advancement of Maori language revitalisation.
Nga Pae co-director Jacinta Ruru says there is not a lot of funding available for students at masters level, which is vital if they are to go on to PhDs.
" And we’re particularly pleased to actually have something here at the masters level for our Maori students and encouraging them and enabling them to write in te reo Maori or to write in English, on any Maori revitalisation topic," says Jacinta Ruru
In partnership with New Horizons for Women Trust, Nga Pae o Te Maramatanga is offering an award for research that will benefit women.
There are smaller grants and awards to help candidates complete and submit their doctoral thesis, or to publish it.
Other researchers can also get grants to publish, to share knowledge with communities, policy makers or other researchers, or to attend conferences.
