Maori Television is livestreaming the tangihanga of Ranginui Walker.
Dr Walker’s tupapaku was taken on to Orakei Marae in Auckland this morning, and he’ll be there until the funeral service on Friday morning.
Maori TV chief executive Paora Maxwell says broadcast broadcast is to honour a man who has contributed much to the Maori renaissance of te reo Maori and the understanding of Maori issues by wider Aotearoa New Zealand.
He says making the last rites of a great man available to New Zealanders is important to Maori Television’s central kaupapa of valuing and embracing te reo Maori me nga tikanga.
The livestream will run until 5.30 this evening and from 9am to 9pm tomorrow.
Friday’s funeral will be broadcast live on television and online from 10.45.
