Dr Patu Hohepa pays tribute to Dr Ranginui Walker
A long term comrade in arms is remembering Ranginui Walker as someone who kept the fight for Maori rights moving forward.
Dr Patu Hohepa, who served with him on the Auckland District Maori Council and was a fellow student and later colleague at the University of Auckland, says he had a huge commitment to education.
Patu Hohepa says "He has been tremendously great for Ngapuhi. We will miss him because he has been one of the people who has pushed through our work through the tribunal and in fact he was one of those who worked the whole system out that Ngapuhi and Maori did not give up our sovereignty to another nation to other people," says Dr Patu Hohepa.
