Chair of Ngai Te Rangi Charlie Tawhiao on Paakiwaha
The Rena wreck will stay on Astrolabe Reef. A commission of enquiry found the ship's remains can be left on the reef subject to strict conditions.
Chair of Ngai Te Rangi Charlie Tawhiao says having the wreck removed was their position from the start. That was also the united view of people on Motiti but he says things change and they make no judgement about iwi who took a different view. But he says they were wrong and they disagree.
