Boost for young entrepreneurs
A group of rangatahi from south Auckland has been given a boost from a new fund aimed at encouraging young entrepreneurs.
Youth Minister Nikki Kaye says the Opportunities for Young People funding is to support young people with smart, achievable projects that will make a social or environmental difference.
It comes out of the $2 million Youth Enterprise Fund, which mainly goes to organisations offering hands-on opportunities for young people to develop entrepreneurial skills.
Te Ara Rangatu o Ngati Te Ata Waiohua Incorporated Society will get $46,000 to help develop Maori themed material.
Other ideas to be funded include a venture developing almond milk yoghurt, one developing durable, environmentally-friendly storage for transporting cargo, an app to connect New Zealand language students with peers in China, another to address bullying, and $38,000 to develop an online digital record of people’s experiences in real-life stories.
