Library damaged in Raukawa Wananga fire

The tumuaki of Te Whare Wananga o Raukawa says a fire that destroyed a building on the Otaki Campus last night won’t affect the start of the academic year.
Mereana Selby says staff gathered quickly to observe the fire, which tore through a building that was being renovated.
The Otaki volunteer fire brigade responded within 10 minutes of smoke being spotted just after 6pm, and eventually nine engines from as far away as Porirua responded.
Ms Selby says the building was to be an extension to the library.
Mereana Selby expects many books will be water damaged, but a lot of more sensitive material was in cabinets.
