Sir Mason Durie promoting Maori maps
Te Potiki National Trust, which has overseen the development on the Maori Maps website, has appointed Professor Sir Mason Durie as patron.
He previously chaired the trust’s kaumatua advisory board, a role that is now held by Tuwharetoa paramount chief Sir Tumu Te Heuheu.
Sir Mason is the former Head of Maori Studies and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Massey University and a leader in research into Maori health, education and indigenous development.
Te Potiki was established in 2007 to support connections between ancestral marae, descendants and visitors.
It now has 766 marae listed on its maorimaps.com website.
