Te Arawa partnership signed off

Rotorua Lakes District Council today formally signed a partnership agreement that will give Te Arawa a greater say in what happens in their rohe.
The event at Ohinemutu Marae was also the first meeting of the recently-elected Te Arawa partnership board – Te Tatau o Te Arawa, which replaces the former Te Arawa Standing Committee.
Two iwi representatives with voting rights will sit on the Strategy, Policy & Finance and Operations and Monitoring committees.
As a result of the change, those committees will make recommendations to the full council, rather than being able to make decisions on behalf of council.
Te Arawa will also be represented on the Resource Management Act policy committee and will recommend iwi representation on any council working groups which are established.
Councillor Merepeka Raukawa-Tait says the people of Rotorua should see some excellent decision-making as a result of the partnership.
