IHC challenged on housing bid
A housing advocacy group intends to shame anyone it sees as colluding with the Government’s sell off of state houses.
The State Housing Action Network this week picketed the head office of IHC.
Spokesperson John Minto says while the organisation has a long history of valuable service, if it takes over state housing it will help the government walk away from its obligation to ensure families on low incomes are adequately houses.
"Nowhere in the world has the private sector or the social housing sector ever been able to provide quality affordable houses for families that need them. Governments are the only group who have the capacity and the resources to be able to do it," he says.
John Minto says the real housing crisis is not the children of the middle class being unable to afford their first house but the lack of quality affordable housing for families on low incomes.
