Taranaki oil exploration folly


Green MP Gareth Hughes says the continued opposition of hapu and iwi to oil exploration off the coast is inspirational.
Tangata whenua in Taranaki have joined in the protests against the latest block tender which granted foreign companies the right to explore a 12,0000 square kilometre are onshore and offshore of the province.
Mr Hughes says coming less than a week after delegations returned from the United Nations Climate Summit in Paris, it shows National isn’t serious about addressing climate change.
Gareth Hughes says New Zealand has the fourth lowest tax and royalty rate in the world and the industry produces far fewer jobs than investments in renewable energy would generate.
