Stirring Collins back in Cabinet
The return of Judith Collins to Cabinet could take some heat off Auckland’s Independent Maori Statutory Board.
Ms Collins, who as a backbencher has been stirring around the edges of the Auckland mayoral race, told ACT Party’s Auckland south conference on Saturday the board was an unaccountable monster which believes it is outside the law.
On Sunday she got the word from Prime Minister John Key she was back in his cabinet with her old roles of Corrections and Police.
She resigned as minister during the 2014 election campaign after emails stolen from blogger Cameron Slater raised questions about whether she was part of a campaign to undermine former Serious Fraud Office head Adam Feeley.
Also confirmed in yesterday’s reshuffle was the departure of Trade Minister Tim Groser to become New Zealand's Ambassador.
West Coaster Maureen Pugh will take his place on the list.
Todd McLay picks up his Trade portfolio.
Paula Bennett becomes the new Minister for Climate Change issues, and hands her Local Government portfolio to Sam Lotu-Iiga, who gives up Corrections to Ms Collins.
