Goff seeking mayoral opportunity

Auckland mayoral aspirant Phil Goff expects to work closely with Maori if he gets to head the super-city.
The long-serving Mount Roskill MP has confirmed he will run as an independent.
He discussed it beforehand with Ngati Whatua o Orakei as well as other mana whenua groups and Maori in the Labour Party.
Mr Goff says creating opportunities for everyone is part of the job, and the reality is that’s not happening for many Maori and Pasifika youth in the city.
"We’ve got to get serious about making sure our people get the skills they need, that they get the jobs they need, that they participate fully in our society. That is part of my basic values and commitment and beliefs. We've got to make a fairer and more inclusive Auckland and a fairer and more inclusive New Zealand," he says.
Phil Goff says as a working class kid he got a chance in life, and he wants to see every kid get that chance.
