Waitangi Trust changes made

Governance of the birthplace of the Treaty of Waitangi is set to change with the passing of a bill overhauling the Waitangi National Trust.
Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Maggie Barry says it removes the Governor-General, Prime Minister, Minister of Conservation and Minister for Maori Development from the board which administers the Treaty Grounds and surrounding estate.
Instead the Government and Opposition will each pick an MP to sit on the board, and the PM, Heritage Minister and Maori Minister will form a crown representatives for to liaise with the board.
Other board members represent families connected with the signing of the Treaty in 1840.
